Joe Ward graduated from the University of Albany with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science, and thereafter obtained a law degree from Albany Law School. Mr. Ward began his claims career in 1990 as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps. During his military career, he served as a claims attorney handling tort claims at Fort Rucker, Alabama and then as an action officer at the U.S. Army Claims Service. During his tenure at Fort Rucker, Mr. Ward handled all tort and medical malpractice claims filed against the Army in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and New Mexico. In 1994, Mr. Ward joined Medical Mutual Liability Insurance Society of Maryland focusing exclusively on medical malpractice claims. In 1999, Mr. Ward was promoted to Claims Manager where he supervised several teams of claims representatives while continuing to handle his own caseload of complex/high exposure medical malpractice cases. During his career with Medical Mutual, he also served as a Risk Management Consultant where he developed and presented risk management programs for physicians and other health care providers and conducted training for claims staff and defense counsel. Mr. Ward joined Hamlin & Burton in 2011.
